LinkedIn Queens Answer #781
Stuck on this 8×8 Queens grid? Puzzle #781 (June 20, 2026) is solved below. The table gives each queen's row, column, coordinate and color, and the walkthrough after it explains how to reach that layout without guessing.
Queen positions for #781
Rows are counted from the top and columns from the left, so R1C1 is the top-left square. The color column tells you which region each queen covers. Small numbers show the order the queens are found.
Solving it move by move
Work through the cards in order. Each one either places a queen or removes candidates. Press → to make one deduction at a time and watch the board change, or switch on auto-play to watch it.
Before you start
16 steps take Queens #781 from an empty board to the answer: 8 rule cells out and 8 place a queen.
Each press of Next makes one deduction and redraws the board.

Queens #781 solution, step by step
Pick any step to see it on the board.
1. Queen on R8C8 Orange
The Brown region is boxed into column 3. That column belongs to it, so cross out R1C3, R2C3, R3C3, R4C3, R5C3 and R8C3.
Look along row 8: the only candidates left are Orange. Since the line needs a queen, Orange cells elsewhere (R1C7, R1C8, R2C8, R3C8, R4C8, R5C8, R6C8 and R7C8) can be crossed out.
Column 8 has exactly one open square left, R8C8, and it belongs to the Orange region. That is where the queen goes. Crossing out its row, column, color and neighbours removes 7 candidates.
2. Queen on R1C1 Purple
Row 1 can only be filled by the Purple region. That pins the Purple queen to this line and removes R2C1, R3C1, R4C1, R5C1, R6C1 and R7C1.
Column 1 still needs a queen and R1C1 is the only candidate, which settles the Purple region as well. 5 cells drop out once you mark the row, column and the eight surrounding squares.
3. Queen on R2C7 Green
Every open cell in column 2 is Blue. That line still needs a queen, so it must be the Blue queen, and the rest of the Blue region is out: R2C4 and R2C5.
Row 2 can only be filled by the Green region. That pins the Green queen to this line and removes R3C7, R4C7, R5C7 and R6C7.
Column 7 still needs a queen and R2C7 is the only candidate, which settles the Green region as well. After the usual cleanup (row 2, column 7, the touching squares and the rest of the color) 2 cells disappear.
4. Queen on R5C4 Red
Inside the Blue region, R6C2 and R7C2 each attack every open cell of Brown. Placing the queen on any of them would empty a region, so they are all eliminated.
R5C6 looks possible for the Gray region, but it covers all of Yellow's open squares at once. Rule it out.
Check the Red region against its neighbours. R4C4, R6C4, R7C4 and R7C5 would block all of Gray, Brown and Yellow, so remove them all.
The Red region is down to one open cell, so its queen goes on R5C4. Crossing out its row, column, color and neighbours removes 6 candidates.
5. Queen on R7C3 Brown
Only R7C3 is still free inside the Brown region. The queen goes there. After the usual cleanup (row 7, column 3, the touching squares and the rest of the color) 1 cell disappears.
6. Queen on R6C6 Yellow
The Yellow region has nowhere else to go: R6C6 is its last legal square. 1 cell drops out once you mark the row, column and the eight surrounding squares.
7. Queen on R3C5 Gray
Every other cell of the Gray region has been crossed out by now, which leaves R3C5 for its queen. That rules out 1 more cell across row 3, column 5, the rest of the color and the squares touching it.
8. Queen on R4C2 Blue
The Blue region is the only color still waiting, and R4C2 is its only open cell. Place the final queen there.
Final layout for #781: R1C1, R2C7, R3C5, R4C2, R5C4, R6C6, R7C3 and R8C8.

Quick questions
- Which squares hold the queens in #781?
- R1C1, R2C7, R3C5, R4C2, R5C4, R6C6, R7C3 and R8C8.
- What does R3C5 mean?
- Row 3 from the top, column 5 from the left.
- What is the first queen I can place in #781?
- R8C8, because the Brown region is stuck inside column 3, which clears the rest of that line before any queen is placed.
Game Rules
Master these rules to solve any Queens puzzle
One Queen Per Color
Each colored region must contain exactly one queen.
No Attacks
Queens cannot attack each other horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
No Adjacent Queens
Queens cannot touch each other, even diagonally.
Solving Strategies
Pro tips to solve puzzles faster
Mark Conflicts
Use X marks to indicate where queens cannot be placed due to row, column, or diagonal conflicts. This visual aid helps narrow down options.
Process of Elimination
If a color region has only one available cell after considering all conflicts, place the queen there with confidence.
Check Diagonals Carefully
Diagonal attacks are easy to miss. Always check all 8 surrounding cells when placing a queen to ensure no conflicts.
Work Row by Row
Focus on completing one row at a time. This systematic approach reduces mistakes and makes the puzzle more manageable.
