LinkedIn Queens Answer #817
Stuck on this 9×9 Queens grid? Puzzle #817 (July 26, 2026) is solved below. The table gives each queen's row, column, coordinate and color, and the walkthrough after it explains how to reach that layout without guessing.
Queen positions for #817
Rows are counted from the top and columns from the left, so R1C1 is the top-left square. The color column tells you which region each queen covers. Small numbers show the order the queens are found.

Queens #817 solution, step by step
Pick any step to see it on the board.
1. Queen on R7C7 Blue
Free queen: the Blue region covers only R7C7, which makes the placement automatic. After the usual cleanup (row 7, column 7, the touching squares and the rest of the color) 20 cells disappear.
2. Queen on R5C8 Red
Notice that the Brown region only has candidates in row 9. Any other color in that line can be removed, which clears R9C1, R9C2, R9C8 and R9C9.
All remaining cells of the Yellow region lie in column 9. Its queen will end up there no matter what, so the other colors lose those squares: R1C9, R2C9, R3C9, R4C9 and R5C9.
The Red region is down to one open cell, so its queen goes on R5C8. Crossing out its row, column, color and neighbours removes 11 candidates.
3. Queen on R4C6 Orange
Only R4C6 is still free inside the Orange region. The queen goes there. After the usual cleanup (row 4, column 6, the touching squares and the rest of the color) 10 cells disappear.
4. Queen on R8C9 Yellow
The Yellow region has nowhere else to go: R8C9 is its last legal square. 5 cells drop out once you mark the row, column and the eight surrounding squares.
5. Queen on R3C1 Green
The Gray region is boxed into row 1. That row belongs to it, so cross out R1C1 and R1C2.
Notice that the Teal region only has candidates in column 5. Any other color in that line can be removed, which clears R1C5 and R9C5.
Every open cell in column 1 is Green. That line still needs a queen, so it must be the Green queen, and the rest of the Green region is out: R3C2 and R3C3.
Column 2 can only be filled by the Purple region. That pins the Purple queen to this line and removes R2C3, R2C4, R3C4, R6C3 and R6C4.
Row 3 still needs a queen and R3C1 is the only candidate, which settles the Green region as well. Crossing out its row, column, color and neighbours removes 3 candidates.
6. Queen on R6C2 Purple
The Purple region is down to one open cell, so its queen goes on R6C2. Crossing out its row, column, color and neighbours removes 1 candidate.
7. Queen on R2C5 Teal
Only R2C5 is still free inside the Teal region. The queen goes there. After the usual cleanup (row 2, column 5, the touching squares and the rest of the color) 1 cell disappears.
8. Queen on R1C3 Gray
The Gray region has nowhere else to go: R1C3 is its last legal square. 1 cell drops out once you mark the row, column and the eight surrounding squares.
9. Queen on R9C4 Brown
Last one: the Brown region gets its queen on R9C4, the one square nothing else attacks.
Final layout for #817: R1C3, R2C5, R3C1, R4C6, R5C8, R6C2, R7C7, R8C9 and R9C4.

Solving Strategies
Pro tips to solve puzzles faster
Mark Conflicts
Use X marks to indicate where queens cannot be placed due to row, column, or diagonal conflicts. This visual aid helps narrow down options.
Process of Elimination
If a color region has only one available cell after considering all conflicts, place the queen there with confidence.
Check Diagonals Carefully
Diagonal attacks are easy to miss. Always check all 8 surrounding cells when placing a queen to ensure no conflicts.
Work Row by Row
Focus on completing one row at a time. This systematic approach reduces mistakes and makes the puzzle more manageable.
